2026 QB Rankings

Last Updated: 1/17/26

1.

Fernando Mendoza

Archetype: Pocket Passer

Pro Comp: Matt Ryan

Grade: 1st round

fernando mendoza.png

School:
Indiana

Height:
6'5

Weight:
225lbs

Strengths:

Above average arm talent. Does well modulating velocity on his throws to layer the ball. Back shoulder balls and bucket throws outside the numbers are beyond elite. Accuracy doesn't take a dive under pressure. Footwork is efficient; hits all the easy throws. High IQ player who sees the field well and makes good decisions. Fast in a straight line; can pick up chunks of yardage if a play breaks down.

Weaknesses:

Needs to improve his ability to look off zone defenders; often telegraphs his passes. Accuracy totally breaks down on the move (but improved down the stretch). Not as sharp as you'd like pre-snap, which leads to him taking sacks/preventable pressure from free rushers on passing downs. Solid athlete but not somebody you want in the open field frequently.

2.

Ty Simpson

Archetype: Gunslinger

Pro Comp: Sam Darnold

Grade: 2nd round

fernando mendoza.png

School:
Alabama

Height:
6'2

Weight:
208lbs

Strengths:

One of the best processors in the class. Pre-snap competence is outstanding. Throws with anticipation and gets through his reads quickly. Very composed and an efficient mover while under pressure; spatial IQ is clearly high. Mechanics are sound top-to-bottom and his good ball placement reflects that. Good enough athlete who can extend plays.

Weaknesses:

Deep ball is downright bad. Accuracy is overall inconsistent; fell off in the second half of '25. Holds the ball too long (2.98sec TTT); internal clock will have to speed up in the league. Simpson's physical tools are average or just above average across the board. He fumbles more often than you'd like. He is in his fourth year, but 2025 is the only season we've seen of him as a starter.

3.

Trinidad Chambliss

Archetype: Dual Threat

Pro Comp

Grade: 3rd round

trinidad chambliss.png

School:
Ole Miss

Height:
6'0

Weight:
205lbs

Strengths:

Dangerous athlete with good speed, change of direction, and elusiveness. Chambliss has above average arm strength, especially for a player his size; can drive the ball over the middle. Arguably the best deep ball thrower in the class. Above average accuracy that doesn't taper on the run. Dense frame allows him to take hits and be used on designed runs. Post-snap processing has improved throughout the season.

Weaknesses:

Below average frame that will turn some teams off. Accurate over the middle, but a chunk of his bad decisions come from late or predetermined reads targeting that area of the field. Is easily thrown off his platform by a muddy pocket; too quick to ditch the pocket. Scheme-reliant pre-snap process. Green post-snap processor, but has improved in 2025; helped by an RPO-heavy Ole Miss offense that limits full-field concepts.

4.

Garrett Nussmeier

Archetype: Gunslinger

Pro Comp

Grade: 3rd round

garrett nussmeier.png

School:
LSU

Height:
6'1

Weight:
205lbs

Strengths:

Cerebral player who is highly accurate and prescient when attacking the middle of the field. Sound pre-snap process; identifies blitzers and adjusts accordingly. Post-snap process is also very good; identifies coverages and finds his man. Sees the field very well. High IQ operator when in structure who will likely play for a long time. Looked like the best QB at the Senior Bowl.

Weaknesses:

Arm strength is average; will struggle to thread the needle against NFL DBs. Arm talent declines further on the move; not good rolling to his left. Breaks down under pressure; will drift in the pocket, lose his base, and put the ball in harm's way. Athleticism won't threaten NFL defenses. Below average height and mass. Profile muddied by unfortunate 2025 season circumstances.

5.

Cade Klubnik

Archetype: Dual Threat

Pro Comp: Mitchell Trubisky

Grade: early day 3

cade klubnik.png

School:
Clemson

Height:
6'2

Weight:
210lbs

Strengths:

Arm elasticity and quick, compact throwing motion jump off the screen. Legit speed to threaten defenses. Natural talent pops when taken off-platform; accurate rolling to either side and delivers throws on the run with zip. Generally consistent accuracy at all three levels of the field. Ball placement is receiver-friendly.

Weaknesses:

Fairly slow processor who sticks to his initial read. 2025 production has seen a steep decline from 2024. Delivers passes late more often than you'd want. Garrett Riley offense makes things easy on him; half-field play designs and one-read decisions galore. May lack the frame to consistently succeed on designed runs in the NFL.

6.

Carson Beck

Archetype: Game Manager

Pro Comp

Grade: early day 3

carson beck.png

School:
Miami

Height:
6'4

Weight:
233lbs

Strengths:

Generally good accuracy at all three levels of the field. One of the more accurate deep balls in the class. Avoids taking bad sacks fairly well; 15.2% career P2S rate. Pocket presence is solid; knows when to step up to avoid pressure. Throws with good layering and anticipation, especially toward the sideline. Turnover rate has been cleaned up since 2024.

Weaknesses:

2024 exposed him as a QB who collapses under pressure, and Miami hid that part of his game in 2025 with quick reads and simple concepts. Good-not-great arm strength despite his dense frame. Mechanics totally fall apart under pressure. Mediocre processor who gets stuck on his first read too often.

7.

Taylen Green

Archetype: Raw Athlete

Pro Comp: Terrelle Pryor

Grade: mid day 3

taylen green.png

School:
Arkansas

Height:
6'6

Weight:
228lbs

Strengths:

Regularly puts jaw-dropping athletic feats on film; long runs, hurdles, etc. The best running QB in the class easily; elite speed and rare ability as a runner for ANY player his size. Has a live arm; has flashed touch and layering as well as fastball velocity. Aptitude for targeting the middle of the field; flashes anticipation and precision. Comfortable operating with his back to the defense.

Weaknesses:

Has shown very little growth as a passer in 4 years of starting experience (47 starts). Totally inaccurate throwing outside the numbers. Poor lower-half mechanics cause him to miss easy throws. Lagging processor who doesn't check it down enough. Uptick in turnover worthy play since moving to the SEC. Hero ball playstyle creates bad turnovers; 24 career fumbles.

8.

Cole Payton

Archetype: Strong Armed Dual Threat

Pro Comp: lefty Trey Lance

Grade: mid day 3

cole payton.png

School:
NDSU

Height:
6'3

Weight:
233lbs

Strengths:

Dynamic, raw arm talent that can make every throw imaginable. Not afraid to thread the needle and give his weapons a chance to make plays. Flashes impressive ball placement into some very tight windows. Imposing runner in the open field with good contact balance and speed. High upside dart throw, but the mental side of his game seems to improve with each week.

Weaknesses:

Sports a slow, wind-up throwing motion with a strange release point. Footwork and mechanics are subpar; scattershot accuracy on occasion. Internal clock betrays him; holds the ball for too long (3.40sec TTT) and bails out of clean pockets. See-it-throw-it guy who doesn't often display impressive anticipation. Competition level raises questions.

9.

Joey Aguilar

Archetype: Gunslinger

Pro Comp: Ryan Fitzpatrick

Grade: mid day 3

joey aguilar.png

School:
Tennessee

Height:
6'3

Weight:
225lbs

Strengths:

Arguably the most accurate deep ball in the class. True gunslinger who will push the ball downfield and give his weapons a chance to make a play. Does well to avoid taking sacks (11.1% career P2S rate). Surprisingly cerebral against the blitz; gets the ball out quickly and fairly accurately. Proved he can succeed outside of the Tennessee offense in '23 and '24 with App State.

Weaknesses:

Lacks elite physical tools in every regard; fairly average across the board. Ball security is an issue; 10 fumbles and 22 INTs in the last two seasons. Propensity to go for the big play often gets him in trouble; high-risk-high-reward decision maker. Older prospect who will be 25 as a rookie.

10.

Luke Altmyer

Archetype: Game Manager

Pro Comp

Grade: late day 3

luke altmyer.png

School:
Illinois

Height:
6'1

Weight:
210lbs

Strengths:

Very accurate in the short range and pretty solid in the intermediate range as well. Capable of making throws outside the numbers and over the middle. Consistently displays good touch; does well to layer the ball. Has decreased his  carelessness with the ball in 2025. Experience in a pro style spread offense with ample under-center reps.

Weaknesses:

Takes too many sacks; career 23% P2S ratio reflects his lack of mobility. Ball loses velocity and accuracy when throwing beyond 25 yards; poor deep ball thrower. Accuracy falls off a cliff when forced to throw off-platform. Overall lackluster athlete who lacks great or better size, speed, quickness, or elusiveness. Will turn 24 during his rookie season.
